There are parcels of National Forest interspersed throughout the area, but most are accessible only by crossing private property. It was perfect i was in the last race on sunday so the track was nice, i was in the c-open class on my 06 crf 450x it was perfect!!! Having never raced MX before and going to this race by myself, sitting on the starting line on my '01 DRz400 (with felt markered numbers) I really felt out gunned- to be going up against veteran racers who may be desperate for final season points. I recounted my experience for my friends by email so maybe they would go next time, and read as such: - Wilseyville Hare Scramble   If there is a cross country race to consider  participating in, I would recommend is the Annual  Wilseyville Hare Scramble, which I did Saturday. The race was a timed 1.5 hour, 5 mile forested -7 lap course. No preview or pre- use (all year!) is allowed. The whole track set up was perfect & had just received 1- 2" of rain.  In the a.m., kid classes were run first which served as a pre-grooming, thru the virgin forest, for the senior events in the afternoon which were run in 1 minute delayed staggered shotgun starts. There were about 5 such waves w/ about 25 racers per class.   My experience started by driving in the parking lot which was packed with rv's and trailers, much bigger of a 'event'  than I anticipated. It turned out to be final round of District 36 Cross Country Series. Being my first MX race, my only race strategy I had at that point was to just get off clean, avoid trouble, and  not to over-exert at the beginning and avoid my chronic arm pump. That all changed at the first turn with the race dictating different and the awesome! conditions. Being on the outside line I kept it pinned to turn 2 & filed into 4th position. The race tempo was hot but the leader started to leave.    Confidence came quick and I wasn't about to follow if I could go faster. I broke out from the pack and ran second/ third for the race. Passing many riders in the previous race wave started early on, (with track route variations), added to some placement confusion I encountered throughout. One detrimental oversight I made was to not wrap my thumbs with the sports tape I brought (which blistered bad) and was a injured rider 2/3 through. I fell on the DRZ  2 minutes from the finish,  after getting cross rutted after a creek crossing uphill. Then was passed  for second, unknowingly, and ended up trophying 3rd about 1minute: 13 sec. down from first.   The conditions made the whole race at full hook up, both power and brakes, always in control.  The forest  was typical of like Stonyford (a more open forest wide track), some straights were 55-65mph (rippin'),  some areas of slow weaving in christmas trees, and with shaded cool/ wet creek and rivine areas also. Just rolling up and down and all over on perfect dirt always at a quick pace. Taking roost was almost funny. The whole thing was excellent being it had just rained .
