    Hi Mark
I am planning on doing this ride with you. I would like to know the route you have planned as it is mostly up in my area, any dirt? looking forward to.

  • Steve Hartshorn:

Oh yeah. forgot to say that I am trying to get a few others interested in joining us.

  • Hi Steve,
Yes, the ride to Timbuctoo & Beyond will include some really cool “dirt” roads.
The ride to Timbuctoo & Beyond is the perfect low elevation winter ride that includes some of the best “dirt” roads and historic “dirt” mining roads between Auburn, Yuba River and Nevada City.

  • To all SNA members,
The weather report calls for partly cloudy/sunny for Saturday!!!
So, it looks like we’re going to luck out with the weather for this coming weekend.
But either way this weekend’s ride is a go “rain or shine”

Thanks: Mark – it’s all about adventure

  • To all SNA members,
Well the weather report was wrong again. It rained like crazy for the first few hours before it finally stopped but then it continued to lightly rain off and on throughout the day and we even got into a little snow. Overall we had a good ride but due to the weather only two determined riders and myself showed up for the ride. So, due to the weather the ride to Timbuctoo & Beyond will be reschedule for a later date in February, stay tuned for the official ride/event date.

    Mark
Lookong forward to riding on the 20th of Feb. with you. Maybe my road won’t be iced over.
    see you then.

  • Doug:

    Mark,
How fast are the street roads and how technical are the dirt roads? My wife can ride her xt225 or her DRZ 400SM depending on the answers. I am sure the xt will be to slow for the street but great for the wet & muddy stuff. I am not sure if the 400 SM will handle the wet muddy stuff with her street tires. I have a DRZ 400S that is good for average speeds of 60 mph but if the 650 cc+ start crusing at 70+ mph, I will be left in the dust. I would not want to hold up the group.
    Thanks,

    Doug

  • Hi Doug,
The ride to Timbuctoo & Beyond is a mix of dirt roads and curvy single-lane & two-lane back roads west of Hwy 49 in the Sierra Nevada foothills. The dirt roads are easy overall and moderate if conditions are muddy but are not technical. North of Auburn there is a five mile stretch of Hwy 49 which is a 4 lane hwy that requires hwy speeds. This dual sport ride is a low elevation winter season dual sport ride which is perfect for dual sport bikes such as the DRZ 400, KLR 650, GS650, 800GS, KTM 990 & 1200GS Adventure.
Note: Please review the videos attached for an example of the off-road terrain.

Mark, I appreciate the videos and comments. This looks like a very fun ride and I will need to verify if I can make it. Thanks for the information.

  • Dick West:

Anyone riding with their S. O.??? (Wife, g/f, etc.)
Jan and I might come along. She rides either a DR350 or DR650.
This is a very nice area. Bring the camera…………..

  • Bill:

I may be there on my DR650 this would be my first ride with this group but I recognize some names from other groups I have ridden with in the past. Hope there is not too much mud (I hate mud).

  • 2wd:

Just wondering if there is a lunch place to eat planed ( has food) or should we bring our own food?

    See you all Sat.

    Mike

  • Bill:

Looks like I will be there unless the weather turns to ^@%#. Is the meetup at the 76 station next to Fosters Freeze (AKA Freezing Mr. Fosters) or the the one across from Rebies or the one at Dry Creek?

    –Bill

  • Bill:

oops, will there be a gas stop somewhere on the route? I am only good for about 100 miles and I see 135 total?

    –Bill

  • SNA-mark:

    Hi Bill,
The meetup is at the 76 Station next to the Fosters Freeze. Yes, we will have a gas stop and lunch at the halfway point of the ride. The ride is about 145 miles round trip so you will be good with one gas stop. As of today the weather report calls for partly cloudy/sunny, so keep your fingers crossed for good weather.
See you tomorrow, rain or shine.
