ADV TRAINING DAY – Levels 1 and 2 (Beginner to Intermediate)
Ready to IMPROVE your OFF-ROAD skills and technique for ADVENTURE riding!
ADV TRAINING DAY coaches the proper techniques to IMPROVE your OFF-ROAD skills to learn the proper techniques for OFF-ROAD adventure motorcycle riding and gain the confidence to EXPLORE off-road in the dirt, mud, rocks, gravel, sand, and water crossings. ADV Training class is designed for middleweight to heavyweight dual-sport ADVENTURE motorcycles!
Dual sport adventure motorcycle riding is the fastest growing segment of motorcycling, and one of the most enjoyable and exciting experiences you can have on two wheels but it does pose serious danger to riders without the proper skills. The freedom to explore on-road and off-road provides endless opportunities to travel just about anywhere imaginable. Before you head out for an adventure, it’s important to sharpen your skills and learn the proper techniques for off-road riding that will allow you to enjoy your sport and your adventure.
ADV TRAINING DAY – LEVELS 1 and 2: ADV Training Day provides instructions to improve your off-road skills and coach the proper techniques for off-road adventure riding. After a day of ADV Training, you will be safer, more confident, and more prepared to go out and explore just about any type of off-road terrain imaginable.
- Instructor, Mark Girardi from Sierra Nevada Adventures will provide the ADV Training and coaching including demonstrations for each obstacle to teach the proper techniques to improve your skills for off-road riding.
ADV Training Day Overview: You will spend the first half of the day training and improving your skills and learning the proper techniques for off-road adventure riding at a closed-course training center at Prairie City State Park. The second half of your day provides the opportunity to practice your off-road techniques learned at the training center and apply your skills and off-road techniques on a unique dual sport adventure ride through the California Gold Country.
ADV Training Day – Levels 1 and 2: Your ADV Training begins with instructions in proper body position, posture, and balance, clutch control, braking, throttle control, terrain and traction in dirt, mud, rocks, gravel, sand, and water crossings, cornering standing and sitting techniques including techniques for riding over obstacles such as logs and ruts. These techniques will be taught and practiced including coaching with the opportunity to ask questions.
ADV Techniques focuses on:
- Body position
- Posture and balance
- Clutch control
- Braking
- Throttle control
- Terrain and traction in dirt, mud, rocks, gravel, sand, and water crossings
- Cornering standing and sitting techniques
- Proper motorcycle setup for adventure riding
- Picking up your bike (as needed)
Note: All obstacles are "challenge by choice" there are no mandatory activities and there is always a go-around to allow you to build your skill level at your own pace.
Lunch Break: During your lunch break you will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the lessons learned. You will also receive a list of Adventure Tips describing the techniques learned including helpful tips for dual sport adventure riding.
ADV Training Day Ride: You will have the opportunity to spend the second half of your day on a unique dual-sport adventure ride to explore off-road on dirt wagon routes through the Gold Country and visit an abandoned hard-rock gold mine from the California Gold Rush. This dual-sport adventure ride will allow you to practice the techniques learned at the closed course training center and apply your skills to real-world obstacles encountered on a typical SNA Gold Country dual-sport adventure ride.

ADV Training Day Ride Details: Your half-day adventure training ride provides the opportunity to practice your skills and techniques on a dual-sport route with “mild to moderate” off-road terrain with a combination of curvy back roads, twisty single-lane roads and remote dirt roads with rocks, ruts, mud-holes, creek crossings, to sharpen your skills for off-road adventure riding.
ADV Training Day Ride focuses on:
- Dirt and gravel
- Rocks and ruts
- Mud and water crossings
- Downhill and uphill techniques
- Cornering standing and sitting
Note: No Sierra Nevada Adventure ride would be complete without exploring a historical site so, on this adventure ride, you will have the opportunity to visit a historical hard-rock gold mine with a shaft that reached a depth of 3,440 feet and produced over five million dollars during the California Gold Rush.
TRAINING DETAILS: Sierra Nevada Adventures, will provide instructions and coaching to improve your skills including demonstrations for each obstacle to teach the proper techniques to improve your skills for off-road riding.
After completing the ADV Training Day class, you will be safer, more confident, and more prepared to explore off-road and experience one of the most enjoyable and exciting experiences you can have on two wheels.

Motorcycle: Bring your adventure bike, helmet, gloves, boots, and protective gear/clothing, and SNA will provide the ADV Training.
- If you don't have your adventure bike yet, we can introduce you to our local motorcycle rental company which will be happy to rent you a bike and the protective gear required at a very reasonable price.

RULES AND REGULATIONS:
Riders must be at least 18 years of age.
Riders must have a valid motorcycle license.
Riders must wear proper protective gear, helmets, gloves, and boots.
ITINERARY:
First Half of Day:
- Meet & greet
- Technique discussion, bike adjustment session
- Closed course training session for dirt, mud, rocks, gravel, sand, and water.
Lunch break: Q/A session (bring water, snacks & lunch)
Second Half of Day:
- Trail etiquette and safety talk.
- Adventure ride training - dirt/gravel roads, mud, pot-holes, water crossings.
- Q/A session including demonstrations.
Event Details:
ADV Training Day: (6 to 10 riders with 10 riders max)
MEETING TIME: 8:30 a.m. (begins at 9:00 a.m.)

Please have a full tank of gas at the beginning of the ride.
Ride returns to Folsom CA. (approx. 5:00 p.m.)
